Aging Does Not Have To Happen To You

It has sometimes been said that aging is inevitable, but that looking old is optional! Although we all age, we deal with it in different ways, with different results. So what are some of the secrets of those enviable people who manage to look far younger than their years?

Pre-plan for the time when you are going to need senior services. This may be planning for your retirement home, nursing home or home health care. If you take the time to plan it while you are able to, you are sure to end up in the place that you want to and that will bring you peace.

One of the best ways that you can do in order to slow down the aging process is to exercise on a regular basis. Try to have at least 30 minutes of physical activity in your day. This could be done either by walking or even playing basketball. Make sure that it is something that you enjoy.

Common causes of hearing loss while aging are tinnitus and prebycusis.  Tinnitus can be diagnosed by a buzzing or ringing in the ears and prebycusis is just a gradual hearing loss due to aging.  Adults over the age of fifty are more prone to prebycusis and tinnitus.  Hearing loss is quite common and can be combated by regular ear check ups and hearing aides.

As you age, to continue to have healthy looking skin moisturize it every day. How your skin looks is directly related to the amount of moisture  your skin is receiving. It’s important then to get moisture back into the skin, so choose a moisturizer that works best for you and use it daily.  This is an area related to aging that you can have a significant impact on.

Life is a journey that should be explored and enjoyed. If you take the time to set milestones like you did for your kids as they were growing, you will find that when you reach those milestones you will feel the same pride as you did all of those years ago.

Spend time with people from many different generations. This can be with your family, your friend’s families or even at a school assembly. There are many different kinds of events that will allow you to interact with these many generations that you can learn many new and exciting things from.

We are an optimistic people, always looking to the future.  But in old age a backward look, even regret, can be a good thing.  Assessing what is good or bad, what worked well or did not, is part of our job as human beings; part of what we pass on to the next generation.
